Hiddi and Dillu, EthiopiaIt’s a game!
And it couldn’t be any other way.
It’s a game of pure forms, shadows, textures… The building itself becomes another toy. The walls transform into tables, chairs, the perfect hiding spot, or even a slide. It’s designed as an ideal place to play and learn.
The school is built using load-bearing walls made of rammed earth. This sustainable system allows the use of local materials. During construction, various openings are made in the walls, which later serve as furniture storage or as play surfaces, depending on whether they’re seen through the eyes of an adult or a child.
The project aims to create a fun yet healthy and pleasant environment for all users. The roof is raised to allow for ventilation and the entry of natural light. Classrooms open onto the courtyard, creating a spacious and versatile atmosphere. This is complemented by two large communal spaces: the dining hall and a multipurpose room.
All in all, Mamba’s Yard is an educational and recreational space designed to feel like a second home for students. In the images, you can read how we imagine the experience of this place through the eyes of a little girl!
